Abstract

A vat dyestuff is produced by condensing 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid or a halide thereof with 1.8-diaminoanthraquinone, or alternatively by starting from 1-nitro- or a 1-halogen-anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid or a halide thereof and treating the primary condensation product with a reducing agent or ammonia. The product dyes cotton scarlet shades, especially fast to boiling sodium carbonate solution and chlorine. Examples describe its manufacture from 1.8-diaminoanthraquinone and (1) 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride; (2) 1-nitroanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride followed by vatting or treatment with ammonia according to Specification 420,359; (3) 1-chloranthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride, followed by replacement of the chlorine atom by the amino group according to Specification 219,830, [Class 2 (iii)], (example 2). Specification 3055/09, [Class 2 (iii)], also is referred to.
