Abstract
An anthraquinone vat-dye is prepared by acylating the carbazole from 4 - amino - 4<1>-benzoylamino - 1.1<1> - dianthrimide with a 1.9-anthrathiazole - 2 - carboxylic halide or by cyclising a 4-benzoylamino-4<1>-(1<11>.9<11>-anthrathiazole -2<11>-carboxyamino)-1.1<1>-dianthrimide to the corresponding carbazole. In examples: (1) 4.4<1>-dibenzoyldiamino-1.1<1>-dianthrimide is treated with strong sulphuric acid at 70 DEG C. and the product acylated with 1.9-anthrathiazole-2-carboxylic acid chloride; (2) 4-benzoylamino-4<1>-(1<11>.9<11>-anthrathiazole -2<11>-carbamino)-1.1<1>-anthrimide (prepared from 1-chloro-4-(1<1>.9<1>-anthrathiazole - 2<1> - carbamino) - anthraquinone and 1-amino-4-benzoylaminoanthraquinone) is treated with strong sulphuric acid at room temperature and the product oxidized with sodium dichromate. The product dyes brown shades from the vat. Specification 326,487, [Class 2 (iii)], is referred to.
