289,103. Thomson, R. F., Thomas, J., and Scottish Dyes, Ltd. Oct. 13, 1926. Isodibenzanthrone dyes. - A vat dyestuff, probably a diaminoisodibenzanthrone, dyeing cotton reddish-blue shade which on treatment with bleaching powder become bright blue, is obtained by treating with alkaline condensing- agents the amino-Bz 1-chlorbenzanthrone, melting at 280-1‹ C., described in example 7 of Specification 256,281. According to examples the aminochlorbenzanthrone is fused with (1) alcoholic caustic potash (2) caustic potash, ethyl or butyl alcohol, and p-thiocresol (3) sodium alcoholate; other mercaptans, such as thiophenol, may be used in place of thiocresol; the product may be purified by fractional precipitation from sulphuric acid solution. Specifications 242,620 and 254,742 also are referred to.
