456,806. Oil engines; pumps. BUCHI, A., 20, Salstrasse, Winterthur, Switzerland. March 4, 1936, No. 6582. Convention date, March 6, 1935. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii)] In a sleeve-valve engine the charge is whirled round a restricted combustion chamber 5 by providing a helical face 9 on the part of the piston opposite the admission ports and forming the cylinder head to leave minimum clearance at the whole of the annular part round the combustion chamber. A recess 12 is also formed in the piston opposite the exhaust ports. The combustion chamber may be formed as a pocket in the piston, the face 9 being then sloped downwards. The ports 7, 8 in the cylinder and sleeve valve may conform to the shape of the face 9. Two liquid fuel injection devices 23 are provided. The engine may be charged by an exhaust-driven turbo-blower arranged on the exhaust side of the cylinder block, the charge being conveyed to a manifold on the other side by a pipe extending over the cylinder head.
