[Class 65 (i)] A door with an automatic closing device comprising a lever d controlled by a spring and dashpot in a casing a is held open when required by a pawl h, carried on a resilient or resilientlymounted bar g on the lever d, engaging a projection i on the casing a. In the form shown, two projections i, with a recess between, are provided to allow the device to be used with doors opening in either direction. The pawl is shown in the engaging position in Fig. 3, and the door is released by pulling it so that the bar g is forced up and the pawl tilts over the projection i ; the force required for this operation is regulated by a screw (which may be replaced by a cam, lever or other handoperated means) pressing on the bar g, the screw being slacked back when the door is not required to remain open so that the force of the closing spring is sufficient to overcome the resistance of the pawl.
