451,754. Loud-speakers; diaphragms. BARDEN, G. A., 11, Barcombe Avenue, Streatham Hill, and GOODMANS (CLERKENWELL), Ltd., Broad Yard Works, Turnmill Street, Clerkenwell, both in London. Jan. 21, 1936, No. 1873. [Class 40 (iv)] In a loud-speaker of the kind comprising a main diaphragm and an auxiliary diaphragm arranged coaxially or concentrically and actuated at their centres by common electromechanical means, the smaller diaphragm 7 is curved in planes including its axis, while the larger diaphragm 6, which has a substantially free or floating edge, is substantially straight in such planes. In the construction shown, the inner edges of the inner and outer diaphragms 7, 6, are attached to the inner and outer surfaces of the cylindrical former 4 of a moving- coil speaker. The outer edge of the diaphragm 6 is provided with a corrugated surround, which permits substantially free movement of the diaphragm and is clamped between metal rings 11, 12. The auxiliary diaphragm is made of paper or other fibrous material moulded to shape and impregnated with synthetic resin.
