Abstract

533,913. Loud-speakers. GOODMANS INDUSTRIES, Ltd., BARDEN, G. A., and NEWLAND, E. S. Aug. 18, 1939, No. 23855. [Class 40 (iv)] A loud-speaker of the kind comprising a large diaphragm 5 and a small diaphragm 6 co-axially mounted on a common driving coil 7 is mounted within a casing 3 in such a way that the edge of the large diaphragm is behind an opening 4 in the casing, and the casing is otherwise closed and has a natural frequency which in conjunction with the frequency of the diaphragm assembly produces a resonant frequency of the order of 45-50 cycles per second or below the lowest audible frequency. 'The edge of the large diaphragm is supported by an internal spider 15 carried by a central post 16. The smaller end of the diaphragm assembly is supported by an external spider 11. The edge of the large diaphragm is curved as shown and fits in a groove 20 in a frame member 19 which is attached to pillars 18 on an annular plate 17 to which the magnet assembly 8 is bolted. 'The internal surfaces of the casing are lined with felt layers 3.
