[Class 17 (iii)] A metal plate 3 with downturned flange 5 is secured to a heel 2 for the attachment of a rubber heel 7 which is a loose fit in the cavity formed by the flange 5 when the heel 7 is buckled but fits it tightly when the heel is flat. Inturned serrations 8 on the flange 5 lightly engage the side walls 9 of the rubber heel 7 when it is flattened by pressure on the ground under the weight of the wearer.
