Abstract
451,091. Sharpening knives. INDUSTRIE AKT.-GES. ALLEGRO, Emmenbr³cke, Lucerne, Switzerland. Feb. 3, 1936, Nos. 3248 and 3249. Convention dates, Feb. 11, 1935 and July 29, 1935. [Class 60] A sharpener for knives comprises two crossing abrasive bodies 1, 2 carried by holders 3 pivoted at 21 to a casing 11 and acted upon by springs 8. A knife to be sharpened is placed with its back upon a roller 13 covered with rubber, felt, &c. and mounted on eccentric trunnions in a slot 12 in the casing, and is reciprocated with its edge in engagement with the bodies 1, 2, which have curved faces of such form as to give the same sharpening-angle for blades of different widths. In a modification, the pivots may be above the blade, the bodies 1, 2 having convex surfaces. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the bodies 1, 2 have plane faces and are slidable in a casing 4 under the action of levers 9 with ribs 10 engaging the bodies, and a spring 8 lying in a groove 8 in the casing. The trunnions 14 of the roller 13 may be located in any of a series of grooves 15 on the sides of the slot 12 according to the width of the blade, the grooves being opened or closed by a slidable plate 16 with slots 17 therein.
