Abstract

Adsorbed SO4 ions are removed from hydrated titanium oxide by treatment with gaseous ammonia or other gaseous substance having basic properties such as the aliphatic amines followed by heating to remove the products of a reaction. Prior to treatment the hydrated oxide may be dried at a temperature between 100 and 700 DEG C., and after treatment with the gaseous substance heating may be effected in a current of gas containing oxygen at 250--1000 DEG C., to re-oxidize the partially reduced dioxide to any desired degree.
