Abstract

450,622. Operating clutches. KLOCKE, W., 8906, 97th Street, Woodhaven, New York, U.S.A. Sept. 5, 1935, No. 24815. [Class 80 (ii)] In a clutch for presses &c., comprising a segmental key 15 mounted in the driven member 10 and co-operating with one or more recesses 17 in the driving member, a face 48 on a yieldable abutment member 45 coacts with the complementary end face 47 of an arm 35 on the key 15 to rotate the latter for disengagement against the action of a spring 42. The member 45, Figs. 1 and 3, is pivoted on a slide member 50 which is urged upwards by a spring 52 and which has a lost-motion connection 77 with a treadle rod 75. A spring 70 urges the member 45 anticlockwise towards a stop 72. At the commencement of the disengaging action, the faces 47, 48 come into contact, the members 35, 45 occupying the positions shown in Fig. 3. As the member 10 continues to rotate, member 45 turns on its pivot until it abuts against a stop 60 and the member 50 simultaneously yields against the action of the spring 52, as shown in Fig. 1, the clutch being now disengaged. The member 10 is brought to rest by the braking action resulting from sliding of the face 47 over the face 48, assisted by an abutment 62 on the member 45. An independent brake may also be used. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the member 45 is mounted on a fixed pivot 80, is urged upwards by a spring-pressed abutment 82, and has a lost-motion connection with the treadle rod 75.
