Abstract
444,073. Plate heat - exchangers. STONE & CO., Ltd., J., Deptford, London, and COTTER, E. W., 28, Croham Valley Road, South Croydon. Sept. 12, 1934, No. 26230. [Class 64 (iii)] Apparatus for heating and/or cooling milk &c., comprises alternate plain and spirally-corrugated hollow plates f, g clamped together with rubber gaskets l and division plates a<1>, b<1>, c<1>, d<1> between them to form brine and water-cooled sections a, b respectively, a regenerative section c, and a waterheated section d. Each hollow plate consists of a centrally-apertured spirally-ribbed rubber plate h, which may be reinforced by a metal disc h<3>, mounted within a metal frame i and enclosed by a casing formed of plain or corrugated sheet-metal covers secured together by a circumferential welded joint k. The milk flows in turn through each hollow plate from the periphery to the centre and thence back to the periphery on opposite sides of the rubber plates, while the heating or cooling medium flows alternately from the periphery to the centre and from the centre to the periphery through the successive spiral passages between the hollow plates.
