Abstract

443,381. Vices. EVANS, W. J., Highbury Avenue, Bulwell, Nottingham. Sept. 13, 1934, No. 26335. [Class 61 (ii)] A screw-operated vice mounted on a base for angular adjustment about an axis coincident with or parallel to the screw axis comprises two jaws 10A, 10B adjustable by a right and left screw 14 and slidably mounted on a pivot shaft 11 fixed in a central upstanding lug 12 on the base 13, the bases of the jaws having angularly disposed flats. 23, 24 coacting with the face 21 of a pivoted catch member 20 to maintain the vice jaws in different angular positions. One of the V-jaws is slotted to receive the other V-jaw when the jaws are closed and U-shaped shoes may be fitted over the jaws for gripping plain work. In the modification, Fig. 5, the jaws pivot about the adjusting screw 16, the lower ends of the jaws being guided in a U-shaped guide 29 and retained in different angular positions by a rod 34 engaging holes 33 in the jaws and series of holes 32 in uprights 27 on the base 131. The base plate of the vice may be arranged to fit on the support described in Specifications 414,969 and 429,136.
