Abstract
441,677. Wrapped pipes. MANNESMANNROHEN-WERKE, 1b, Berger Ufer, D³sseldorf, Germany. Sept. 14, 1935, No. 25571. Convention date, Sept. 14, 1934. [Class 99 (ii)] An insulating band c of jute &c. saturated with tar &c. is applied to a pipe a so that it extends lengthwise along the pipe and is wrapped transversely therearound. Preferably the band is of a width greater than the circumference of the pipe so that its edges form a longitudinal lap seam. The operation may be effected in apparatus comprising a saturating bath d and pipe guiding and supporting rollers e and f, g, h respectively located above the bath, the band c being fed from a roll b over upper and lower rollers in the bath to the roller e and pipe a and the band and pipe then being moved together longitudinally by the rollers f, g, h. During the latter movement the rollers f, g wrap the band around the pipe and the roller h presses the overlapping edges together, a guide plate i being fitted in front of the rollers as shown to ensure proper positioning of said edges. Means may be provided for lime-wash coating the wrapped pipe.
