[Class 78 (iii)] Comprises arrangements of tackle and platform-guiding means in the type of car lift in which a guided platform is raised and lowered on four posts by means of tackles. The Figure shows the platform provided with carreceiving members 4 and guided in the slotted, hollow, box-shaped pedestals by means of superposed rollers 8, 9 bearing against the front and rear surfaces of the pedestals. The rollers may be replaced by long sliding guide shoes. Both front and rear of the platform are provided with a pair of tackle chains or ropes 13 and 14. Chain 13 passes from the fixed point 20 round the pulleys or sprockets 19, 18, and both pulleys 17 at opposite ends of the platform to a sprocket wheel 15 on the shaft 16, thus having three falls on the lefthand side of the platform and one on the righthand side. The other chain 14 passes from another sprocket 15 on the same shaft round the pulleys 21, 22, and both pulleys 8 to the fixed point 24, thus having three falls on the right-hand side and one on the left-hand side of the platform, making a total of four falls of both chains on each side of the platform. By operating the shaft 16 through worm and chain gearing from a motor 30, the platform is raised or lowered; the superfluous chain being received into or payed out from compartmented boxes 32. The pedestals are mounted on or fixed to feet 2 provided with levelling screws. The two shafts 16 at the front and rear of the appliance are coupled by a universally-jointed shaft. The chains may extend under the platform from front to rear instead of from side to side. Pins inserted in holes 34 may fix the platform at any desired height.
