Abstract

441,173. Stud-and-eye fastenings. HARLEY, F. B., 167, Frimley Road, Camberley, Surrey. March 8, 1935, No. 7357. [Class 44] A fastener comprises a supporting member carried by one of two parts to be fastened and a second member, which has a resilient fork, slidably mounted on the supporting member, the fork being so shaped that when the member is slid in one direction the fork springs over and into a reduced portion of a pin or stud carried by the other part to be fastened. Two plates 6, 7 riveted together form a housing for a spring wire member 1 having a forked end 2 adapted to engage a groove 12<1> in a pin 12 which is inserted through holes 13 in the plates 6, 7. The wire member has splayed ends 11 to give an easy engagement with the pin and is moved by means of a pin 4 sliding in grooves 5, 5<1> in the plates and engaging an eye 3 formed in the wire member. Alternatively the wire member may be formed with a bent up loop passing through the slot 5 to serve as a finger piece. The upper plate 7 may be shaped at 18, Fig. 5, to engage the forked end 2 of the member 1 when not in engagement with the pin, or, when a wire loop finger piece is used, the sides of the bent up loop may frictionally engage the edges of the slot 5. The pin 4 may have a knob at both ends. The pin 12 has a tapered part 22 to facilitate entry into the holes 13 and is riveted or screwed to a plate 21 on one of the members to be secured. The fastening may be used for aircraft panels, attache cases and motor car bonnets.
