July 13, 1934, No. 20575. [Class 142 (ii)] The warp threads pass through the eyes 17 of light flat metal healds 18 mounted on their edges between spacing pieces 19 on annular supports 20, 21. The healds are arranged in several banks A, B, C and are supported on rings 23 sprung into notches in the spacing pieces 19, and selected healds are moved from their central position to separate certain warp threads from the remaining ones sufficiently to allow for entrance of the shuttle noses, by the attraction of electromagnets 25 carried by a ring 26 and arranged in advance of each shuttle. The ring 26 is mounted on supports 27 on a ring 10 carrying rotatable vane wheels 15 engaging with the shuttles, which bear against a ring 16, the ring 10 being rotated by toothed and belt gearing from a motor so that the shuttles are caused to rotate about the central shaft of the loom, the electromagnets moving in unison therewith and being continuously energized through conductors 28, brushes 29 and slip rings on a stationary part 31. The shuttles complete the separation of the warp threads &c., initiated by the electromagnets, the tension of the warp threads subsequently returning all the healds to a central position 32 in readiness to be reshredded by the succeeding magnet. The supports 21 are carried in a spider 22 from the central shaft of the loom. The weaving of 2 : 1 twill is described, the number of shuttles being a multiple of three. According to the Provisional Specification, the healds may be arranged 30 or more to the inch in a five bank arrangement for weaving five shaft satin.
