[Class 142 (ii)] The warp threads are shed by means of a shedding wheel 25 and several banks of thin steel strip needles 17 slidably mounted in closely-spaced slots in superposed trick rings 14 supported by pillars 15 from a ring 23. The wheel 25 tends to move the warp threads and needles 17 inwards, but certain needles are restrained from such movement by the engagement of one or more projections 20 on segmental plates 21 with butts &c., 18 on the needles. A shed. is thereby started in the warp threads near each shuttle 10 and is completed thereby. The plates 21 are supported on pillars 22 on a ring 24, there being relative movement between the rings 23, 24. Thus when weaving with rotating warps, the ring 24 is stationary and the ring 23 rotates at the same speed as the warps. The manner of supporting the trick rings and spacing the plates 21 is described, as is also the manner of arranging the plates 21 for a five shaft satin weave. There may be ten shuttles and a corresponding series of plates 21 &c. Means for bringing weaving to an end on breakage of warp or weft threads as described in Specifications 396,757 and 402,822 may be used. The shuttles may rotate and the warps be stationary, the trick rings also being stationary, whilst the restraining means for the needles rotate. Specification 413,377 also is referred to.
