440,996. Magnifying-lenses. BUSCH AKT.-GES. OPTISCHE INDUSTRIE, E., 5, Berliner Strasse, Rathenow, Germany. June 26, 1935, Nos. 18261 and 18262. Convention dates, July 4, 1934 and Nov. 30, 1934. [Class 97 (i)] A magnifying appliance consists of a lens L mounted in the upper end of a support S which rests on the.object to be observed, the upper surface of the lens being more strongly curved than the lower surface and the axial distance of the lower surface from the object being less than the diameter of the lens. Preferably the upper surface is spherical and the lower surface is plane, the axial distance of the upper surface from the object being from 0À8 to 1À1 times its radius of curvature. To enable the magnification to be increased without distortion the upper surface may be aspherically curved, the radius of curvature at the vertex being less than that at the margin. Also the lower surface may be spherically curved so that the lens is of meniscus form. In Fig. 3, the lens is secured in a recess in the upper end of the support which is made of glass &c. In Fig. 5 the lens is cemented within a support of substantially hemispherical shape. In another form the lower surface of the lens is cemented or fused to the top of a ring-shaped support.
