440,985. Adjustable eccentrics for actuating presses. KLOCKE, W., 8906, 97th Street, Woodhaven, Long Island, New York, U.S.A. April 12, 1935, No. 11387. Convention date, April 14, 1934. [Class 122 (i)] An adjustable eccentric for the slide-actuating mechanism of presses, &c. is movable transversely across the actuating - shaft by a screw carried by the eccentric and engaging a screwed recess in an eccentric enlargement of the shaft. The punch-carrying slide 12 is operated by a rod 18 connected to a strap 20 around the eccentric 16. The shaft 14 is connected to the driving-flywheel by a rollerkey clutch 24 controlled by a tail 32. A treadle-operated dog 38 is moved against the resistance of a spring-pressed plunger to free the tail 32 and permit the clutch to function. The shaft 14 passes through a slot 44 in the eccentric and has sliding contact therewith. The centres of the shaft and eccentric remain on a straight line in all adjusted positions. The eccentric 16 has pivotally-mounted therein a screw 50 which is screwed into a recess in the shaft and has mounted therein a plug 60 which is relatively adjustable and locks the screw by engagement with the bottom of the recess 55. Pins 80 permit the screw to swivel, and a collar 82 forms a top bearing. The plug and screw have rectangular recesses for engagement with tools inserted through an aperture 68 to effect adjustment.
