439,588. Partition stanchions. HARRIS & SHELDON, Ltd., 31, Stafford Street, Birmingham, SANKEY & SONS, Ltd., J., Albert Street, Bilston, Staffordshire, and BUTLER, H. G., 46, Cannon Street, London. Oct. 17, 1934, No. 29679. [Class 20 (ii)] A prop or stanchion for partitions in buildings comprises a sliding head portion actuated by a transversely sliding wedge to position the prop. The sliding head 6 is of cruciform section with rounded base, two wings 9 of the head engaging with open-ended slots 10 in a socket 4 to prevent the head from rotating. The socket is apertured to receive a transverse wedge 12, which is provided with a screw 14 and nut 16 by which it is moved to coact with the rounded portion 8<a> of the sliding head. The socket has a depending portion 5 which enters the upper end of the tubular member 1, the lower end of which fits upon a shoulder of a pedestal 18 which is screwed to the floor. Two adjusting wedges working in opposite directions may be used.
