Abstract

Film- or foil-like articles of cellulose hydrate are finished and softened by impregnation with solutions of ethers or esters of polyhydric alcohols, or solution of cyclic ethers. Examples of such impregnating agents are glycerine monomethyl ether, polyglycerine lauryl ether, glycerine monocyclohexyl ether, glycerine dicetyl ether, glycerine diphenyl ether, glycerine dinaphthyl ether, glycerine monoacetate, glycerine monolaurate, glycerine adipic acid ester, triacetin, acetoneglycerine, acetonearabite, acetonemannite, acetophenoneglycerine, cyclohexanoneglycerine, furfuryl alcohol, tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol, tetrahydrofurfuryl acetate, furfuryl benzoate, cyclohexanoneglycerine phthalate, furfuryl ethyl ether, and acetoneglycerine butyl ether. The following examples are given: (1) a film from cellulose xanthate, before or after drying, is passed through an aqueous bath containing glycerine monomethyl ether with or without triacetin. (2) Bands produced from cuprammonium cellulose are treated with an aqueous-alcoholic solution of glycerine dimethyl ether and glycerine monomethyl ether, or glycerine monomethyl ether and polyglycerine dodecyl ether. (3) Cellulosic tubes are impregnated in an aqueous bath containing (a) glycerine mononaphthenyl ether, glycol monomethyl ether, and triacetin, (b) glycerine monomethyl ether and isopropyl alcohol, or (c) polyglycerine dodecyl ether, glycerine monoethyl ether, and isopropyl alcohol. (4) Films from cellulose xanthate, before or after drying, are impregnated in an aqueous bath containg (a) triacetin and acetoneglycerine or tetrahydrofurfuryl acetate, (b) furfuryl alcohol, or (c) tetrahydrofurfuryl lactate. (5) Films produced from cuprammonium cellulose are treated, before or after drying, with an aqueousalcoholic solution containing cyclohexanol glycerine or furfuryl methyl ether. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to the treatment of threads for spinning into fabrics. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
