Abstract

437,223. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Oct. 31, 1934, No. 31236. Convention date, Nov. 1, 1933. [Class 38 (ii)] Faults in transformer insulation are detected by providing coils 14, 15 located between the magnetic casing and windings, the detector 16 responding to unbalance in leakage flux. One of the coils 14, 15 may be tapped in order to produce equality of induced voltage in both coils. In modifications, a single coil 14 extends for the length of the main windings, or a number of series-connected coils may be disposed throughout the length of the main windings, the induced voltages being opposed in all of the above arrangements. In a further modification, a variable resistor is connected in series with the coils 14, 15, the induced voltages being additive and the instrument 16 connected to the resistor tapping at an equipotential point. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 296,446, 297,473, and 336,147, [all in Class 38 (ii)].
