Abstract

437,109. Bowden mechanism. TECALEMIT, Ltd., and CHALMERS, R. A., Great West Road, Brentford, Middlesex. April 19,1934, No. 11815. [Class 80 (iii)] The inner flexible member 16 is adapted to be moved by a lever 5 through a rod 11 bent into a circular arc or, in a modification, into a helix and adapted to slide in the end of the outer member 13 bent to the same curvature, the radius of which is the distance from the pivot 4 to the centre of the hole 10 in a bracket 8 through which a reduced end of the rod passes. The length of the rod 11 is such that the angle subtended by it exceeds that through which it is required to actuate the lever 5, and the length of the curved part of tube 13 should at least equal the length of the rod. If an angular movement of more than 135‹ is required, the rod and tube may be bent to a helical form in which case, in order to provide for freedom of movement for the bracket 8, the lever would slide along the pivot 4 in an axial direction.
