Abstract

BRITISH WIRE PRODUCTS Ltd 15 Nov 1972 [17 Aug 1971 38492/71 Heading B7E [Also in Division F2] A push-pull Bowden cable for a motor-vehicle carburetter choke control is actuated manually by axial movement of a knob 3 of the inner rod/ cable 2, frictional jamming means 10 becoming effective on turning the knob 3 for retaining the inner rod/cable 2 in any position of adjustment. The jamming means 10 comprises a split ring having an inner pip 11 engaged with a longitudinal groove 12 in the rod/cable 2 the split ring 10 being assembled in a transversely slotted recess 6, 20 in the outer cable end bars 4 such that turning of the knob 3 and hence rod 2 jams the split ring 10 into engagement with the inner wall of the boss recess 6, 20. The ring 10 and/or rod 2 may be of plastics or metal. Various forms of split ring 10 are illustrated in Figs. 4 to 6 which enable frictional retention of the rod 2 on turning the rod in either way in one or other direction only.
