Actuating-mechanism.-A plug valve of a gas 'lighting or heating fitting is operated by a slotted member which is linked to a spring-pressed sliding member under the control of a Bowden or like flexible cable, the mechanism being such that each successive pull on the cable effects a reversal of the valve. As shown in Fig. 1, the inner member of a Bowden cable is attached to a spring- pressed tubular member, sliding in a housing 22 on the valve body, to which is pivoted a link 19 having at its other end a pin sliding in a slotted member 17 fixed on the valve plug. Notches 17b, 17<c> are formed at the ends of the slot to receive the pin. On operation of the Bowden cable the slotted member 17 is rocked to open the valve and the spring return of the tubular member causes the pin to slide along the slot to the other notch. The next operation of the Bowden cable in a similar manner returns the slotted member and with it the valve plug to its first position. The distant control may be by means of a handle which rotates, between stope 30<e>, a plate 29, Fig. 6, having a slotted bent-over portion in the slot of which slides a pin attached to the other end of the Bowden cable. A nipple 30<c> permits adjustment of the cable. A slotted pivoted lever and a direct-pull control are also described.
