Abstract

435,666. Loose - leaf binders. BERBERICH, W., 60, Gartenstrasse, Heilbronn, Wurtemberg, Germany. Dec. 14, 1934, No. 35965. [Class 146 (i)] A loose-leaf binder comprising rigid filing- rings f arranged at the back of the book, and each having an interrupted or cut-out portion to afford two ends, one of which is fixed to a rail or bar i, the other end h being free for insertion through perforations in the leaves l, is characterized by the fact that the rings are moved circumferentially to cause the free extremities thereof to contact with, or to be moved away from, a support for the loose leaves, by reason of the application of pressure to the bar i, or the release of such pressure respectively, caused by the movement of a part of the binder. The bottom cover a supports the leaves, and is folded over backwardly at b, and then folded over again at c, forming a rounded back d, preferably provided with grooves, corrugations, or the like, and then passed over to constitute the top cover e. The parallel-arranged rings f are inserted in approximately coinciding holes g in the cover a, so that when the book is being closed the bar i is engaged at c by the part d to cause the rings f to move into a position wherein the free ends h thereof engage the bottom cover a, thus holding a pile of leaves l securely in position. The holes g will be forced into coincidence during the closing of the binder. When the binder is opened completely, the bar i is relieved of the pressure and the holes g will move out of superposition to force the extremities h of the rings f to move away from the bottom cover a. The bar i may be flattened to fit against the underside of the folded portion of the cover a. In a modification, a rigid support folded over at the filing end is perforated to support the rings, and this support is inserted into a pocket formed by the bottom cover of the binder. The rings are moved by moving the support into or out of the pocket. The rings f and bars i may be made of metal, celluloid, or synthetic resin, and the covers and supports may be made of millboard, cardboard, or strawboard.
