Abstract

434,896. Motor-vehicle steering-gear. BLUEMEL BROS., Ltd., Wolston, near Coventry, and BLUEMEL, F. W., Cannon Hill, Kenilworth Road, Coventry. June 4, 1934, No. 16552. [Class 79 (v)] The steering gear-box, column, and hand wheel are movable bodily longitudinally of the vehicle in a horizontal direction so that the steering wheel is maintained at the same height, the column and gear-box being secured in any desired position. The column may in addition have a pivotal movement so that it can be adjusted at any desired angle. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the steering column 11 and gear-box 10 are fixed to a bracket 14 slidable on the longitudinal frame member 13 and secured in any desired position within limits by means of a bolt or bolts 18 passing through slots 16, 17 in the bracket and frame. The slots may be provided in one only of the members 14, 13. In the construction shown in Fig. 3 the steering gear-box 10 is formed with a sleeve 20 rotatable in a bearing 19 formed on the adjustable bracket 14, so that the column and gear box can rotate in the bearing 19, the column being secured at any desired angle by bolts 24 on the gear-box passing through slots 23 in a flange 22 fixed to the bracket.
