[Class 78 (i)] [See also Group VI] Conveyer means for taking canned goods through a continuously operated cooker or cooler consists of one or more sets of four spindles c, d, e, f, each spindle having several sprocket wheels b thereon, and an endless chain a which travels between the sprocket wheels on one pair of spindles e, d which it mounts from the lowest wheel on spindle c to the highest on spindle d and then passes to the second pair of spindles e, f where it descends to the bottom, on which it returns to the first pair e, d, or passes to one or more sets of four spindles similarly arranged and then returns to the first pair c, d. The spindles c-f are mounted on bearings on a skeleton frame which is run into the cooker. A drive is then lowered into engagement with the upper end of one of the spindles. The chain links a have plates g, Fig. 4, riveted thereto which support the cans between fixed guides i which also support the plates g and prevent the chain from sagging. To permit adjustment of the tension of the chain a the part of each of the spindles d, e on which the sprocket wheels b are mounted is eccentric to the ends d', e' which are mounted in bearings and provided with crank arms j coupled together by rods k which have right and left hand threads on which are screwed a nut m held against axial movement by brackets n. By turning nut m the distance apart of spindles d, e will be varied to shorten or lengthen the path of the chain a.
