427,686. Waterproofing. TEXTILWERK HORN AKT.-GES., Horn, Switzerland. June 2, 1934, No. 16486. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1933. [Class 140] Light-weight air-permeable waterproof fabric is made by treating a single-ply cotton fabric with a mercerizing lye without tension to shrink it to the maximum extent, impregnating with a known waterproofing agent, e.g. a paraffin emulsion or a benzene solution of an artificial resin and calendering at an elevated temperature, for example 100‹ C., at a pressure of 200-300 kilograms per square centimetre. After shrinking, the fabric may be subjected to hot rinsing, acidified, rinsed again and, if desired, bleached cold and dyed. The product may be used for rain-coats, jackets, vests and glove-linings.
