Abstract

Fabric containing raw cellulose-containing yarn and also yarn rendered creaseproof by treating with formaldehyde or the like and heating, according to Specification 455,472, is bleached and subjected to the action of swelling agents, whereby pattern effects are produced. The swelling agent may have shrinking or parchmentizing powers, e.g. caustic soda or dilute sulphuric acid. The creaseproof yarns may be of natural or artificial fibres. The fabric may be subject to direct or reserve printing before the swelling treatment; local cr<\>zepe effects may be obtained, and local dyeing effects, since the dyeing properties of the treated yarns are modified. In examples: (1) raw yarns are woven as a foundation together with creaseproof yarns as above, and the raw yarns opened by boiling; the fabric is bleached and shrunk for 3 mins. without tension with soda lye of 37 DEG B<\>ae. at room temperature, washed, soured, washed and finished; (2) as in example 1 up to the bleaching, the fabric is then mercerized under tension, soaked, treated with sulphuric acid of 54 DEG B<\>ae. for about 8 secs. at 10 DEG C., washed, mercerized under tension, dyed and finished; (3) as in example 1 up to bleaching, then printing with a gum reserve, treating with sulphuric acid of 54 DEG B<\>ae. for 8 secs. at 10 DEG C. for transparency, washing off gum reserve, 3 mins. shrinking with soda lye of 37 DEG B<\>ae., washed, soured and finished; the transparent portions form embossings, and the effect yarns in the non-transparent parts are cr<\>zepe like.
