Abstract
423,692. Loading and binding hay, straw, &c. CLAAS, A., and BRENNER, W. G., Harsewinkel, Westphalia, Germany. Dec. 2, 1933, No. 33954. [Class 6 (iii)] A machine for picking-up and binding hay, straw, and like crops is arranged to be coupled to a tractor that runs at the side of the machine. The hay or other crop is lifted by a loader 12 comprising endless chains carrying transverse rods 16 fitted with tines 17, the side frames of the loader being pivoted on a transverse shaft 13. The crop is delivered into a collecting hopper 3 from which it is fed to a binding press 4 by a pivoted rake 20 actuated from the gearing of the pressing piston 5. A power take-off shaft 29 extends from the tractor 27 and drives through bevel-gear 30, 31 a countershaft on the binder frame from which the drives for the piston 5 and the loader are taken. The piston 5 presses the material down the channel 4 where it is bound into bales and then pushed along a shoot 33 to a wagon 34 or on to the ground. In a modification, the reciprocating pressing piston 5 pushes the material upwards into the channel 4, the rake 20 being dispensed with.
