Abstract
422,814. Cables. OKONITE-CALLENDER CABLE CO., Inc., Paterson, New Jersey, U.S.A. Dec. 21, 1933, No. 36010. Convention date, Dec. 21, 1932. [Class 36] To reduce eddy current losses in a power cable comprising one or more insulated cores enclosed in an earthed metal pipe or sheath and each provided with an electrostatic screen, the screen consists of one or more electrically separate sections which are each earthed at one point only. In the construction shown, the insulated cores 1 of a cable of the kind in which the cores are laid in a metal pipe 9 containing insulating oil under pressure are provided individually with metal tape electrostatic screens 3 which are insulated from the pipe 9 by wrappings 4 of paper or canvas. The screens 3 consist of a number of isolated longitudinal sections, two of which are shown, each having a connection 6 to the pipe 9 which is earthed.
