Abstract

422,008. Cable couplings. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd., Caxton House, Tothill Street, and LAMBERT, C., 16, Bramley Crescent, Ilford, both in London. Oct. 27, 1933, No. 29872. [Class 38 (i)] In coupling a stranded cable to a terminal or intermediate part such as a busbar 1 or to another cable at right-angles, the cable is enclosed in a conducting sheath or wrapping such as a split copper sleeve 7 and is engaged by a V-shaped clamping member which compresses the enclosed cable and causes it to conform to the shape of the part to which it is being coupled. The Figure shows an arrangement for coupling three cables 2, 3, 4 of different sizes to a common bus-bar 1 by means of two W-shaped members 8 coupled together by a bolt 9 fitted with feathered washers 10 having convex undersurfaces in order to apply pressure to the members 8 in suitable directions. When a cable is terminated at the coupling, the wrapping 7 overlaps the end of the core, the space so formed being filled with a material impervious to moisture, and the junction between the sheath and the insulation of the cable is filled with insulating material and wrapped with insulating tape.
