Abstract
820,421. Cable couplings. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. Jan. 23, 1958 [Jan. 23, 1957], No. 2473/57. Class 38 (1). The cores of a branch cable 2 (Fig. 1) are joined to the cores of a main cable 1, which are not cut, by connectors (Figs. 3 and 8) having compressible sockets 29, into which the ends of the branch cores are secured, joined by arms 14, 26 to two-part compressable sleeves 15, 25 which fit on to the bared cores of the main cable. The removable parts 21 (Fig. 6) of the sleeves are engaged with the parts 12, 25 by sliding them in axially. The connector is shown in two forms, the curved arm connector (Fig. 3) being designed to connect a branch conductor to the remote core or cores of a three or four-core main cable and the short connector being designed to connect a branch conductor to a near core of such a cable. The socket and sleeve are deformed into, e.g. hexagonal external shafts to make permanent connection with the cores and may have internal grooves or screw threads filled with an abrasive paste to improve the electrical conductivity of the joint.
