A., Red Roofs, Carlton Avenue, all in Derby. June 23, 1933, No. 17874. [Class 80 (i)] [See also Group XXXIII] Relates to gearing for driving two coaxial airscrews in opposite directions. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the engine crankshaft a carries a sun-wheel c<2> in mesh with planet wheels d connected to stepped planets d<1>, d<2>. The cage e, e<3>, e<1> is connected to the sleeve f carrying the hub f of one propeller ; a sun wheel g on the shaft b carrying. the hub b<1> of the other propeller is in mesh with the planets d<1> ; and the planets d2 mesh with a reaction sun g<2>. In a modification, not shown, the crankshaft drives an annular wheel in mesh with one of two stepped planet wheels mounted in a cage integral with a sleeve for mounting one propeller hub, the other propeller being mounted on a shaft having a sun wheel in mesh with the planet wheel, while the other planet wheel is in mesh with a fixed reaction member. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the crank shaft drives a bevel gear m in mesh with one bevel m<1> of a double bevel planet wheels m<1>, m<2> mounted on a shaft n fixed to the propeller shaft b. A bevel wheel o on the hub sleeve f is also in mesh with the bevel m<1>, while the bevel m<2> runs on a fixed reaction crown-wheel m<3>.
