Abstract

417,764. Boots &c. SBICCAMETHOD SHOES, Inc., Laird Schober Building, 22nd Street, Philadelphia, U.S.A. March 16, 1934, Nos. 8371 and 8372. Convention dates, March 23, 1933 and Dec. 23, 1933. [Class 17 (ii).] A sole blank is cut and slit to form an insole part 14, Fig. 2, comprising a rand 19 surrounding an aperture 16 at the ball portion and an integral shank and heel, and an outsole part 13 comprising a projecting portion 15 complementary to the aperture 16 and integral heel and shank portions. The heel portion of the part 13 may be slit, as at 27, to form a heel breast covering flap. A marginal portion is removed from the periphery of the insole part 14, extra material being removed at the parts of sharpest curvature to accommodate the increased thickness of upper materials which gathers there when lasting the upper. The sole part 13 is chamfered at the shank and the sole is roughened and adhesive applied. A sheet of paper 28<c>, Fig. 9, is applied to the last or attached to the ball portion of the insole 14 to cover the aperture 16 and removed after completion of the shoe, to prevent adhesive sticking to the last. Chalk or other adhesiveproof substance may be applied to the surface of the projection 15 to prevent adhesion of the paper thereto. The sole is applied to the lasted upper with the projection 15 seating in the aperture 16 of the insole, as shown in Fig. 9. U.S.A. Specification 1,838,708 is referred to.
