Abstract
192,540. Vickers, Ltd., and Sinclair, H. Nov. 30, 1921. Speed - varying mechanism; liquid - pressure engines.-In variable-speed transmission gears of the kind comprising pump and motor units and means for varying the stroke of the pump and/or motor unit, the stroke-controlling member D, Figs. 1 and 2, is operated by an hydraulic servomotor A<x>, controlled bv a member A<1> which is under the joint control of a hand-lever B and an automatic device C operated by the pressure in the system, the member A<1> being returned to its neutral position by hunting gear. Means are also provided for limiting the rate of retardation when the control-lever is moved back towards neutral. The member A' is connected to a floating link E, connected at one end to the device C and at the other to a floating link E', one end of which is connected through links e<3>, e<4> and a lever e<5> to the lever B, while the other is connected by a link e<1> and bell-crank e<2> to the pistonrod of the servomotor. The exhaust from the servomotor cylinder may be throttled, and a bypass valve a<x> serves to by-pass the liquid when the member D is at or near its neutral position. In a modification, an electric servomotor of the Deri single-phase type is employed. The device for limiting the rate of retardation comprises a plate F<1> with stop-members f<1> adapted to cooperate with the lever e<5>, the plate being carried by a cam F engaged by a roller e<x> on the pistonrod of the servomotor.
