Abstract
An improvement in or modification of the composition claimed in Claim 11 of the parent Specification consists in mixing 100 parts by weight of rubber with about 25 to 300 parts by weight of the plastic elastic material. The plastic material may be prepared according to the methods set forth in the parent Specification or in Specification 415,953, [Group IV]. The mixture may be vulcanized; various times, with corresponding pressures, and amounts of sulphur are given, for from soft to hard vulcanizates. It may be used as an oil-resisting stock, for which a suitable mix is (parts by weight):-rubber 100, the plastic material 75, sulphur 20, diphenylguanidine 4, zinc oxide 10, calcium oxide 10, magnesium oxide 20, carbon black 30, anti-oxidant (which may be an acetone-diphenylamine condensation product) 1. This is cured, for example by heating for 30 mins. at 80 lbs. steam pressure or, without the diphenylguanidine for 4 hours at 60 lbs. The calcium and magnesium oxides are present to neutralize any acid which may be formed tending to inactivate the diphenylguanidine; if an accelerator such as mercaptobenzothiazole, not inactivated by acids, is used, these oxides may be omitted.
