Abstract

415,308. Electric incandescent lamp caps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.- (Assignees of Geiger, W. J. ; 878, Englewood Road, Cleveland Heights, and Gaskill, A. T. ; 2639, East 128th Street, Cleveland, both in Ohio, U.S.A.) Dec. 22, 1933, No. 36143. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1932. [Class 39 (ii).] The base of an electric incandescent lamp bulb which is shaped to engage a socket is provided on its outer surface with a conductive coating 20 connected to one of the leading-in wires 16, and carries an insulating-cap 23 provided with a contact 22 electrically connected to the other leading-in wire 17. The conductive coating 20 may be applied by spraying or blowing small particles of molten metal, such as zinc, on to the glass until the required thickness is attained, the outer end of the wire 16 being held down upon the top flange 19 of the bulb by applying the coating thereon. The insulating cap 23 preferably consists of hard rubber or similar material which may be cemented in position and is prevented from turning by providing it with a groove 24, Fig. 3, to engage the raised portion of the coating about the end of the leading-in wire 16. A boss 25 on the cap enters the stem 11 of the bulb and locates the cap centrally, while the leading-in wire 17 extending through both stem and boss is soldered to an eyelet 22 which forms the central contact.
