Abstract

412,493. Typewriters &c. AKT.-GES. VORM. SEIDEL & NAUMANN, 19, Hamburgerstrasse, Dresden, Germany. Dec. 4, 1933, No. 34060. Convention date, Dec. 8, 1932. [Class 100 (iv).] Platen-roller couplings.-A coupling for the line-space wheel and platen of a typewriter or like machine, comprises a laminated clutch compressed by clamping-levers actuated by a spring-pressed rockable member. A sleeve 4, Fig. 1 and 3, which acts as the mounting axle of the platen, is screwed by means of a flange 5 to the end wall 2 of the platen 1. Mounted slidably in the sleeve 4 is a bush 23 into which is screwed a spindle 6 carrying a knob 7. A pivoted pressure-member 10, mounted on a pin 8 in the bush 23, passes through slots 22, 9 in the bush 23 and sleeve 4 respectively, and is pressed outwards by a weak spring 11. Coupling-discs 13 are engaged to the sleeve 4 by projections 13<a>, and discs 14 are engaged to the line-space wheel 16 by projections 14<a>. The discs are pressed together by means of two levers, each comprising arms 17, 18, 19. In each lever the arm 18 passes through the slot 22 and the arm 19 is provided with two laterally displaced projections 20, 21. The pressure of the member 10 causes the levers to rock about the projections 20 so that the projections 21-compress the discs 13, 14, thereby clutching the line-space wheel to the platen. When the knob 7 is pressed inwards, shoulders 23<a> on the bush 23, together with the elastic action of the discs, rock the lever inwards, the platen being cut away at 24 to permit this movement. The shaft 6 is held in the inner de-clutched position by means of a doublearmed spring-pressed lever 26, 28 engaging an annular groove 27 in the shaft 6. Specification 217,233, [Class 100 (iv)], is referred to.
