Abstract

411,564. Jib cranes. EVANS, O., 27, Chancery Lane, London.-(Demag Akt.-Ges. ; 64, Werthauserstrasse, Duisburg, Germany.) Dec. 29, 1932, No. 36806. [Class 78 (iv).] In a level luffing crane, more particularly for ships, having a bell casing 2 rotatable about a mast 1, a platform 3 mounted at the top of the casing 2 carries the hoisting, luffing and slueing mechanism and the operator's stand, while the jib is pivoted on the casing at 4. The platform 3 is made in two parts 3<a>, 3b which may be detachable. The slueing motor is mounted on the central part 3a and drives through clutch and brake mechanism a pinion engaging a gear wheel fixed on the mast 1, the mechanism being housed within the part 3<a>. Hoisting and luffing motors 11, 20 operate drums 13, 19 through gearing in the casings 12, 21, the winches being of the type described in Specifications 355,307 and 357,319. This gear is mounted on the part 3<a> of the platform. The drums 13, 19 and a return pulley 16 for the hoisting rope are mounted upon a common stationary spindle. The axle bearings of the drums may be exposed by sliding the drums axially after removing a multipartite ring 22 from between them. The luffing cable is anchored at 25 and passes over a pulley 24 on the jib and back to the drum 19. The outer part 3<a> of the platform forms a casing for controllers 26, 27, 28 and a Leonard set 30, and it may comprise separate or connected compartments with ventilation openings. A ventilation fan may be driven by the motor of the set 30. The part 3b of the platform is U-shaped to provide a recess for the jib when luffed in. Slip rings for the current are mounted on the mast 1 above the slueing gear.
