408,482. Thermal switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Eskin, S.; 18, Wabon Street, Roxbury, Massachusetts, U.S.A.). July 7,1933, No. 19315. Convention date, July 7, 1932. [Class 38 (v).] A thermal switch particularly for controlling the temperature of an electrically heated flatiron is of the type in which a bimetallic strip is fixed at one end and has the free end biassed by a U-shaped resilient member to give a snap action. The strip 15 is mounted at 17 on the frame of the iron and a resilient member 20 is mounted in compression between the free end 18 of the bimetallic strip and a projection 22 on a member 23. The member 23 comprises a resilient plate fixed at 17 and having a central aperture in which the strip 15 and spring element 20 are mounted. The free end 23<b> of the element 23 is biassed upwardly by its inherent resilience and engages a stop 30 having screw threaded engagement with the frame. Rotation of a knob 36 on the cover of the iron moves the end 23b of the member 23 and so varies the temperature at which a contact 45 on the strip 15 snaps away from a contact 46 carried on a depending stirrup of member 23.
