Abstract

501,686. Thermal switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 15, 1938, No. 1408. Convention date, Jan. 15, 1937. [Class 38 (v)] A thermal switch comprises a U-shaped bimetallic strip 40 fastened to an adjustable member 58 and carrying at its free end a trough shaped armature 42 within which is mounted a spring carrying a movable contact 45 co-operating with an adjustable fixed contact 35 carried on an extension 30 of a plug-in contact 28 which also carries a snapaction magnet 33. An auxiliary heating coil 62 is connected between a second plug in contact 29 and a member 47 on which the member 58 is pivoted, so as to be in series with the bimetal strip 40 and contacts 45, 35. The switch is mounted on a wall by being plugged in to the control circuit by contacts 28, 29 and the temperature is set by a knob 27 on a screw threaded shaft 53 which moves the member 58 carrying the bimetallic strip against the action of a leaf spring 59. The differential is varied by screwing contact 35 into or out of plate 30.
