Abstract

406,705. Cables. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., Connaught House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Strieby, M. E. ; 175, Sagamore Road, Maplewood, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Sept. 2, 1932, No. 24500. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1931. [Class 36.] A cable for high-frequency signals consists of two air-insulated coaxial conductors between which is arranged loading-material. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 coaxial tubular conductors 1, 2 are kept apart by insulating washers 3 and thinner conductor 1 is wrapped round with magnetic tape 4 or wire. Fig. 3 shows a cable loaded with magnetic wires 10 secured by notches in the washers 9. Alternatively the loading may consist of a layer of magnetic material applied to the inner or the outer conductor by electrolysis or otherwise. If lump loading is required, magnetic sleeves may be applied to the inner conductor at intervals, preferably opposite to the joints in in the outer conductor, or the arrangement shown in Fig. 6 may be employed. This consists of a number of strips 13 of magnetic material, insulated from each other by a layer of oxide or otherwise wrapped round the conductor 1 and enclosed in an insulating casing 15 which serves to space the two conductors.
