Abstract

770,601. Cables. SOC. ANON. DE TELECOMMUNICATIONS. June 7, 1955 [Sept. 20, 1954], No. 16369/55. Class 36. A self-supporting cable comprises an inner conductor 1 insulated from a coaxial outer braided conductor 4 by an extruded plastic tube 2 having constructions regularly spaced along its length, and an external protecting and screening element which comprises at least one braid of wires or tapes having a high mechanical strength. The external element may comprise one or more metal tapes 6, 7 of copper, steel or copper, or aluminium-plated steel enclosed within a braided wire covering 8, including wires of high mechanical strength such as steel and wires of high conductivity such as copper. Alternatively, the tapes 6, 7 may be enclosed within a conducting tape wound in the opposite direction and an outer braid of spaced steel wires. The external layer may alternatively comprise braided metal tapes which may be enclosed within the braided wire covering 8. Plastic insulating and protective layers 3, 5, 9 may be incorporated in the cable. The conductors 1, 4 may be of copper, aluminium or copper-plated steel or of some steel and some copper wires.
