Abstract

405,759. Control of D.C. motors. MACFARLANE, J. C., Braehead, MACFARLANE, W. A., Alderwood, both in Cathcart, and AUSTIN, G., 10, Caderwood Road, Newlands, both in Glasgow. Oct. 26, 1932, Nos. 29939/32 and 11425/33. [Class 38 (iii).] A continuous-current machine for converting current at constant potential to current at varying potential, or vice versa, supplies half the total power to the traction motors T1, T2 which have their field coils 10 connected between brush B4 and rail E and brush B3 and rail D respectively, this connection resulting in minimum excitation when the armature volts are highest. To stop the vehicle when the motors are running at high speed, the contacts of the potentiometer R2 are reversed, thus reversing the polarity of brushes B3 B4, and power is returned to the line. The machine may have two separate armature windings and may feed a separately excited hoist motor having a weak series winding. Specification 308,041, [Class 35, Dynamoelectric generators &c.], is referred to.
