Abstract

405,177. Endless tracks for vehicles. CHEVREAU, L., 24, Boulevard Bineau, Levallois-Perret, Seine, France. June 14, 1933, No. 17004. Convention date, June 14, 1932. [Class 79 (i).] The pivoted links of an endless track are enclosed in substantially fluid-tight boxes so as to exclude dirt and retain grease. Each link unit is built up from a number of elements comprising plain links 1, Fig. 1, pairs of opposed links 9, Fig. 2, riveted together at 10 so as to form a hole 11 for a securing bolt 12, a pair of guide plates or links 15, Fig. 6, a plate 20, Fig. 8, fitting between the points 30, 27 of links 15 and into the slight recesses 5 on the top of the links 1, 9, and a cap 34, Fig. 7, which forms a box with the plate 20. The link units are pivoted together by pins 16 passing through holes 2 in the link plates and the pivotal movement is limited by sector plates 31, Fig. 13, having end flanges 32 adapted to abut against surfaces 33 of the plates 15. In assembling a link unit a pair of sectors 31, back-to-back, are placed between a pair of plates 15 connected together by a distance piece and pin 18. A plate 20 is then inserted diagonally into the plates 15 and turned until it takes a horizontal position and recesses 23 in 20 engage the points 27, 30. A similar unit for another link is built up and the two are connected together by a plain pivot pin 16. On each end of the pin 16 there are then placed one or more links 1, a link 9, and one or more links 1, washers being used as required to space the links. A cap 34 filled with grease is then fitted over the links, and all the parts are then secured in place by two bolts 12 recessed into the plate 20 and having nuts 13 bearing against the cap. A rubber belt 40 is then threaded over the bolts 12, followed by angle irons 42 and rubber tread blocks 44, all secured on the bolts by nuts 14. An endless band may be used instead of the tread blocks 44. The plates 20 fit flush with the upper surfaces 7 of the links 1, 9, to form a bearing surface for the track in passing round the driving sprocket. End lugs 25 on the plates 20 engage the teeth or the like of the driving sprocket. The flanges or lugs 32 on the sectors 31 may prevent the track from bending in one direction or may limit the bending in that direction. The pivot pins 16 of the links are prevented from axial movement by the side walls 36 of the caps 34.
