Abstract

402,970. Combined turning and boring machines. DEUTSCHE NILES WERKE AKT.-GES., 6, Riebestrasse, Weissensee, Berlin. March 6, 1933, No. 6818. Convention date, March 5, 1932. [Class 83 (iii).] In a horizontal boring, drilling, milling, &c. machine the feed-motions of the boring or milling spindle, the slide carrying the spindle and of a work-table are all derived from a vertical shaft passing through the slide and driven either from the boring &c. spindle, which can be rotated at different speeds, or at different speeds from a constant speed shaft. Headstock driving-gear ; driving machine spindle.-The boring spindle 7 is rotated independently of the facing head 9, either from an electric motor 10 or from a vertical shaft driven at the base of the machine, by means of gears 14 or 15, Fig. 1, and 17 or 18 ; 19 or 20 and 21 or 22 ; 24 or 25 and 27 or 28, and an idle gear 29 engaging a gear 30 splined to the spindle, thus giving eight speed changes. The facing head is driven from the intermediate shaft 26 by a pinion 31 which is adapted to be engaged or disengaged from internal teeth 32 on the head by means of a rack and pinion 34, and the boring spindle may be rotated from the head by disconnecting the gear 30 from the gear 29 and engaging it with an internally toothed clutch 33 on the sleeve 8 which carries the head. Feed-motions, toothed.-The boring spindle is fed axially in conformity with its speed of rotation by means of the gear 30 thereon, which drives a gear 36, Fig. 2, and thence by gears 38, 40, either gears 40 or 44 and 43 or 45 ; 46, 47 or 48 and 49, 50 or 51, cone clutch 53, shaft 52, reversing bevels 54 and clutch 58, which drives a vertical shaft 57. The shaft 57 rotates the worm and bevel gearing 61, shaft 37, change wheels 63 and screw and nut 64, 65 connected to a yoke 66 on the spindle. This gives six speed changes in each direction of feed, and screw-cutting feeds are obtained from the change wheels 63. The work-table of the machine may also be fed along the axis of the spindle 7 by gearing in the machine base driven by the lower end of the shaft 57 and a feedmotion for facing may be driven from the spindle 7. The feed-motions for milling are independent of the rotation of the spindle 7 and are obtained from a pinion 35, Fig. 2, on the motor-driven shaft 12 and through gears 67, 68, 70, ....75 to the gear 39 which is displaced axially from the position shown so as to be disconnected from the spindle 7. From the gear 39, the shaft 57 is driven through the sixspeed change used for the spindle feed, and further gearing at the lower end of the shaft 57 rotates a vertical screw engaging a nut on the spindle-head 3. In this case the shaft 37 is disconnected by disengaging the bevel gear 60. A horizontal lateral feed of the work-table for milling may also be obtained from this train of gears and the shaft 57. High-speed feeds are obtained from the shaft 57 by engaging the cone clutch 53, 88, the former being keyed to the shaft 52 which carries the bevel gear 54 and the latter being connected to the gears 68, 70.
