Abstract

252,350. Vulkan Maschinenfabriks- Akt.-Ges. May 25, 1925, [Convention date]. Addition to 246,176. Combined turning, drilling, milling, and planing machines.-The combination machine tool described in the parent Specification has modified driving gearing and is further provided with a grinding-wheel 49 driven from the gearing contained in the pedestal. The countershaft 17 is connected by belt gearing to a shaft 47 which drives the grinding-spindle 48. The shaft 47 may also drive a second grinding-wheel carried by the spindle 8, and adapted to operate on work carried by the reciprocating planer table. Work-pieces such as milling cutters and reamers may also be ground. The drilling spindle is driven from the countershaft through a wheel 41, clutch 55, wheel 42, change speed gears 43 selectively engaged by a sliding key 45 and bevel gearing 46. The wheels N, P, A by which the lathe spindle 19 is driven from the countershaft 17 are mounted on a sleeve 50, the inner sleeve of the parent Specification being omitted. In addition to the high speed drive for grinding, two lower speeds for milling may be imparted to the spindle 8 for each speed of the lathe spindle 19, the wheels 51 on the spindle sleeve engaging respectively with gears 52, 53, which may be selectively clutched to the spindle 8 by a clutch 54.
